The 6 Best Collections of Fall 2016

The 6 Best Collections of Fall 2016

In a solid season and a monthlong marathon of appears, presentations, arrangements, and occasions all through New York, London, Paris, and Milan, a couple of accumulations rose to the closer view of our aggregate awareness. With respect to the garments that you'll be truly pining for next season? Here, in sequential order request, is the short rundown.

1, Céline:

Phoebe Philo looked beyond her signature neo-minimalism for fall, evoking a romantic vision of Céline that felt entirely new. Subtle references to reconstructed vintage came through in paneled slip dresses and scarf-print blouses and lent a charming eccentricity and sense of variety to the collection.

2, Christopher Kane:

Christopher Kane addressed the forces of sexual attraction head on with his latest collection, developing a series of collaged embroideries of male and female bodies for sheer dresses and skirts that he called “Lover’s Lace.” There was an underlying sensuality to the black coats and pantsuits edged with red and electric blue too, and the bondage dresses and playful lightning-bolt motifs were a disco-fueled reason to bring sexy back.

3, Vetements:

Vetements held its show in a Parisian sex club, and the collection was a call to arms for urban realism with true grit and soul. The cleverly reworked denim, French firemen sweaters, and oversize puffer coats were the brainchild of head designer Demna Gvasalia—an alum of Maison Margiela and Louis Vuitton—and are likely to become a uniform for cool kids the world over.

4, Lanvin:

It was something of a walk down memory lane for Alber Elbaz, whose home run of a collection took viewers through his childhood in Morocco to his early career working at both Geoffrey Beene and YvesSaint Laurent. From the tasseled leather boots and heavily fringed coats and wrap skirts to the sensual enjoyment of the rich, hippie eclecticisms delivered by piled-on materials and textures or with gloriously patchworked metallic jacquards and 3-D embroideries on relatively clean silhouettes, it wasn’t nostalgic—it was entirely now.

5, Louis Vuitton:

From perfectly tailored pantsuits to slip dresses inset with sporty panels, to ribbed knits and cuddly fluffball white shearling coats, to theA-line miniskirts with their subtle zip-and-buckle fastenings and a super-desirable inventory of bags and low-heeled booties, Nicolas Ghesquière gave us what we didn’t even know that we wanted yet.

6, Rodarte:

Designers Laura Mulleavy and Kate Mulleavy cited migrating birds as a starting point for their fall 2015, and their colorful sequined dresses with plunging necklines and feathered hemlines took the idea of the red-carpet peacock to a daring new place. Glittering asymmetric miniskirts, floral velvet blouses, and high-waisted leather pants also fell in line with the glitzy good-times mood of the eighties that came through this season on both sides of the pond.
